Ever wondered why we have to sit through the boring class of math where the numbers just about fly everywhere with no use in real life?? I am sure most of have had this thought at least once – why do we learn math?? It’s not like we are going to use trigonometry in our life. Well, let me tell you that you are wrong. We can find math in just about every aspect of life. We can find it in nature, from golden proportions to Fibonacci sequences in petals of flowers, or in human applications like architectural designs to designing algorithms to flying to the moon and beyond, we can see numbers everywhere. So moral of the story is, math is everywhere.

So why should “we” learn math?? Learning math is not just about solving equations or memorizing formulas; it’s about developing a powerful set of skills that help us navigate the complexities of life. Indeed, ever had to calculate how much your favorite item costs after a discount?? Yes, that’s math right there!! You can easily calculate the cost of your favorite thing on sale by using the concepts of percentage discounts. Similarly, ever had to group your class among groups of 4s or 5s, right there is the concept of division. As you can see, math is everywhere in our daily lives, even when we don’t realize it. Simple tasks such as budgeting, shopping, cooking, and planning travel require basic math skills. Understanding how to calculate percentages, fractions, and proportions is essential for making informed decisions in daily life. The more we learn math, the better equipped we are to manage these everyday tasks efficiently.

Math is not just a subject we have to learn at school. Learning math equips us with various life skills that will not only help us at school but also later when we step into the real world. Following are just a few uses of learning math.
